Grub Control

Grub Life Cycle

Grub Control

Grubs are the larvae of the Japanese Beetle, an extremely damaging insect common to turf-grass. Adult Japanese Beetles lay their eggs in the soil, where they remain for most of the year until the grubs pupate and emerge as the Japanese Beetle. It is the grub stage of their life cycle that causes the most damage to the lawn. They derive the turf of food and nutrients and end up destroying it. The grubs really thrive on the roots of turf-grass, especially in late summer or early fall. Timing of a grub control application is important.

Beppes Lawn Care can provide a grub preventative application in late spring/early summer that can help protect your turf from these pests arising. In the event you do have active grubs, a treatment can be made. If you suspect your lawn of grubs you can check by attempting to pull the turf up by hand and inspect the soil. These areas will appear to be burnt out or unhealthy. Active grubs will be close to the roots of the turf. It is common for predators of the grub to rip up the turf in an effort to eat them. (skunks, raccoons or moles).
